Derek back home and resting
after Huset's Crash:
August 28th, 2003: After
a scary wreck Saturday night at Huset's Speedway, Derek is back
at home resting and recovering. Another competitor and him made
contact, with the result being a violent flip into the outside
retaining fence. He was knocked unconscious, and life flighted
to nearby Sioux Valley Hospital, and put under the care of Randy
Rygard.
Derek would like to personally thank the Huset's Speedway Safety
Crew, Doug Wolfgang for his call, and everyone else who has called
or wrote Derek. "All of the overwhelming calls and cards i received
have helped me in my recovery, and I can not thank everyone enough
for their concern. I would also like to thank the medical staff
at the hospital, esp. Randy Rygard in their professionalism and
expertise in my treatment." Derek, thankfully, only came out of
the entire deal with a severe concussion. Derek will be sidelined
indefinitely, but you will see the 50D sprinter
on
the
track Saturday
Night with
Brooke Tatnell filling in.
